In addition to our identity for the Fridericianum, we were commissioned to design a new foyer space and bookshop for the historic building. The new foyer responds to the existing architectural space, which features the original column pedestals that survived the bombing raids of Kassel during World War II. Four-metre-high book shelf units made of perforated metal are embedded into two archways of the foyer, and a central counter provides visitor information, ticketing and a café. We also developed furniture elements including benches, tables, magazine racks and an umbrella holder. The space is now home to a Kassel branch of the bookseller Buchhandlung Walther König.
